Cammy Fraser runs Mainstay Trust’s Drama Group and his considerable experience and knowledge have ensured that this weekly group is incredibly popular with service users. The specially tailored drama workshops enable the service users to increase self- confidence, self-esteem, learn team building skills, find their voice and have lots of fun at the same time. An important part of the process for Cammy is to ensure that he facilitates service users with different levels of ability to engage in the group and to participate meaningfully.
Workshops consist of different activities, all designed to encourage skills such as verbal and motor skills. Service users with more complex needs are included and encouraged to be active in tasks that are more suitable for them.
Cammy’s experience of working with our service users has shown that they have benefitted enormously from this structured interaction with their peers and their physical surroundings. The Drama Group always has a positive and energetic atmosphere and the engagement of support workers and service users is a vital factor in this. Whilst the main focus of the group isn’t an end production, but rather the continued inclusion and enjoyment of service users on a weekly basis, the group are currently in the process of producing a musical.
